Web Hosting

I am looking for a new web host. Those of you who are webmasters and use hosting sites, could you give me the skinny on your experiences good and bad with regard to hosts out there? Can you give me the names of some good hosts sites that are inexpensive. I'm moving my site from YourHostCentral.com as they are doing away with their hosting services. I'm in need of a good admin panel for use when i'm not able to access my own pc. The most important aspect to me in a host is good help forums for setting the site up. YHC lacked that big time and I was always trying to figure out how to password protect certian content, how to set up my own 404 access pages and all that jazz. I used to use Datarealm but their services are very expensive and I am in the market for a host that will cost me under $10 for about a gig of space. I was astonished to learn that there are so many out there and that I was paying so much using Datarealm.... any suggestions for where to move ?
I greatly appreciate it.
Cheers

Naboose looks pretty trustworthy. they have a phone number and address listed. They are also "Geek Certified" which looks like a host verification site. $8 for 20GB is pretty sweet. You could start a small webhost yourself with the gold plan.

This site is good for comparison. Use the search option to customise what your looking for.

Update:
I moved my hosting from yourhostcentral.com to naboose.com about 2 months ago. Until today I could not log into the admin console for my domain because the admin at my new host kept sending my ‘sign up’ email to my e-mail at my old domain – which I did not have access to anymore. Finally I got the guy reply to me at my hotmail account but I was still not able to log in with the registration information I created. Finally I get an email back from him yesterday telling me he reset my pswd. I was able to log in but in the meantime he transferred my domain registration from TuCows.com to GoDaddy.com (with out my permission) and locked the domain using his own information. I telephoned GoDaddy.com and they claim ‘this account’ is not mind and that they need to know the last 4 digits of the credit card used when I registered. Mind, you I never registered my domain with them at all and I certainly never gave them a credit card number! To my frustration the rude a** woman on the phone keeps saying over and over again ‘this is not your site’….I wanted to smack her silly! It is my domain and I am listed on the WHOIS records for the domain. The claim I need to send them a copy of my DBA (doing business as) license for Calyxa Graphics to prove that I am the rightful owner of the website. I’m livid! Calyxa Graphics is just a name its not an actual company dammit, furthermore my first and last name is listed as the admin contact on the website. If the admin cannot request a pswd for the DNS servers then who the hell can?

Well, GoDaddy.com is claiming that the Registrant and the Admin contact are not necessary the same and that the admin is not the owner of the site but the Registrant is the owner. I'm reeling becasue if you do a whois on ichaz.com , clearly i am the owner. It had my po box listed as the address. So they are telling me that this one line of information dictates how they handle their 'security' with regard to the website. Bullshit, my email address is listed as admin on the whois. Why cant i request they at least release my website back to TuCows. Afterall, all that is needed for a registry change is a valid email address, right? Then how did naboose.com transfer the domain to begin with???

I called TuCows they said if they transferred my domain without permission that they could ‘recover’ it for me right away. I’ve got them working on it or I could wait 60 days (because when u transfer a domain, it is put on a 60 day hold for some stupid reason) and then transfer it back if I wish because all that is required to transfer the domain back is an admin e-mail address in the WHOIS record. I am livid.

Do not host at naboose.com. Do not trust Geek Certified.

Hmmm, ok:

[Querying whois.internic.net]
[Redirected to whois.godaddy.com]
[Querying whois.godaddy.com]

You're the registrant, so it should be yours. I'd say godaddy just wants you to pay

but naboose is not doing their job too:

% host www.ichaz.com ns1.naboose.com
Using domain server:
Name: ns1.naboose.com
Address: 206.51.238.142#53
Aliases:

Host www.ichaz.com not found: 2(SERVFAIL)

I took the DNS pointers out. I dont want it pointint to there anymore.

Fisty: Its just my personal website. Nothing special. I had a basic p2p ifo page with a shout box and information on useful utilities (freeware/shareware) like free firewalls and stuff like that. Then i had a password protected area for family and friends so they can view my weblog and photos and stuff.

But i took the site files down when yourhostcentral.com and since i never got a proper password for naboose.com i was never able to ftp the site to their server. BtW, i notice that YHC still has their hosting site up even though they e-mailed me saying they are ceasing hosting services. humpf!
Anyhoo.. i'm trying to reclaim my domainname but i dont know if it will be successful. Since there are so few laws governing the internet theft and this is intellcutual property we 're dealing with I could hire a lawywer but why would i do that for a domain that i paid like $20 to register? It really isn't that important to me and fruthermore, naboose does not have any of my actual files on their server. If i really want to keep the domain name i could just backorder it. Truth is, if i put up a personal site again after this i'm rather into the idea of getting a new name for the site.

Hmmm, I'm sorry for all the problems you encounter. I think we have to conclude that virtual hosting land is not that what it should have been...
