I don't want to sound like a newbies but i guess i'll have to...

i want to start an ebusiness soon and was thinking of getting a dot com here are my questions if somebody can answer them that would be sweet

What is the procedure to follow?
Will i have to pay x amount of dollars for all the years that i have my domain?

its usually around $9 - $15 a year for a domain name
(depending on the registrar)

My other question is will i ever own the name? or wil i have to keep paying eight bucks every year?

Most of the good .com names are taken.

very true, most .com names are long gone.. recently i reggd my own dot com and it took almost 2 weeks of fiddling around with names for me to stumble on mediatechie.com .. all media related names are sold or are being sat on by fat cats waiting to sell them at crazy prices, even though i think that has been made illegal (do correct me if im wrong!)

you could try ICDsoft.com for a very cheap $36 a year including .com registration.. it includes 333mb of webspace, unlimited mail boxes and supports all major web languages. Also you get awesome online support .. too many plus points to mention.. check them out!

i favor godaddy for domain registration and I've had nothing but good service with totalchoicehosting hosting.

The best site for hosting is by far www.1and1.com Just check out their deals on the linux hosting options...and they include free domain names as well. They are the largest webhosting company out there so you know they are reliable and know what they're doing. Good luck
