WYSIWYG Editor

Hey techies. Does anyone reccommend a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor? Im starting to fool around with sites, but I wanna start easy. I dont mind having to use HTML though, but I hardly know it.

macromedia dreamweaver, or the dreaded front page.

LOL I forgot about front page. I thought dreamweaver was some suite for flash. But many thanks though.

Netscape's/Mozilla's Composer is quite a good editor too. It has a simple WYSIWYG view, but it's also easy to gain insight in the generated HTML on the backside. Unlike frontpage Mozilla generates relatively clean HTML 4, which is easy to read.

I suggest a nicne HTML tags list on a website.. and notepad. Then plug away.. then again maybe I am just old fashioned and like to try my luck at brain crashing.

I did try composer on Mozilla since I use mozilla more after removing IE. But everytime i work with it all of my text is reset and garbled among some pre-set crap.

Hmmmm, weird. I only use it for simple stuff which I think Mozilla Composer was designed for. If you want more, you should go for DreamWeaver or GoLive. I used both, and I know that both have the tendency to do whatever you dislike, so you have to do it yourself in the end.

Seriously if you want control over your website.. just use notepad and learn it. HTML is so easy once you figure out how each tag works.

And you can put everything in tables whcih keeps it neat and tidy.. without having those lame looking frames.

the Understanding HTML thread has some great links to help sites.

Well I cant send the DHE Editor Enhanced since its 1.97MB even when heavily compressed. You gotta to to Hexagora then register to forums for that or just download the free one. Forums is free too but whos cares.

Heres 2nd : Yahoo SiteBuilder

I use Freeware ACE HTML for most things. It's not a WYSIWYG, this one is for directly typing HTML and has assitants to help a bit (like add a table, or a image). With just a click you get a preview of the site as seen with IE.

Hands down Macromedia Dreamweaver is the best WYSIWYG editor around. I have been working with it in my web design class and am amazed at its potential. Take some time and get to learn it. I have made sites by "hand" before too, but anyone that does this will usually admit that it is more or less a major pain. Once you know HTML, I would suggest using Dreamweaver and then tweaking code if necessary.
