What is the difference in the newer geforce cards?
OK, I can tell a difference in quality and price between the GeForce Ti series and the Ge Force MX series of cards. The Ti series (Ti 4200,4400,4600) are aimed at hard core gamers and computer enthusiasts....the Ge Force MX series of cards is aimed at the home user(MX 400, 440,etc.) But what is this new line of Ge Force cards about? I am having trouble telling which card is meant for the hardcore gamer and which is meant for a home user! Let me explain....In the new Tiger Direct magazine I have, It still has the MX series of geforce cards, but only is selling one PNY brand of a Ge Force Ti4200!(Does this mean that the Ti series and MX series are being phased out? Now they have all the new Ge Force cards in, but the prices for these confuse me! They have a PNY Verto GeForce FX 5200 card that sells for $99.99 Then they have a Verto Ge Force FX 5200 ULTRA that sells for...get this....$179.99! I am sure that BOTH cards have the exact same core from what I am reading! Both have 128 mb of memory and both have the exact same outputs. (VGA,DVI and SVideo) So why is the ultra so much more money....I mean the ultra comes with a "Tom Clancy Splinter Cell" full game.....but an $80.00 difference in price??? The game itself only costs 40 to 50 dollars! So this is really confusing! To make matters worse they have another PNY Ge Force FX 5600 card that sells for 249.99! What I am wondering, is, are the cards numbers based on how much they sell for? Example: GF4 Ti 4200 (old core) = GF FX 5200 (new core)?? OR GF FX Ti 4600 (old core) = GF FX 5600 (new core)??? Are these FX cards just a newer version of the Ti series??? If anybody can striaghten this out I would appreciate it! Also if the FX series is equal to the Ti (Pro) series, then what is going to replace the MX series of cards???? To mnake matters worse they have the Ge Force Quadro 4 seriesthat go from a quadro 4 NVS $159.99 all the way to a Quadro FX 2000 which sells for....$1399.99!!! Mabye the FX series is the "home version" and the Quadro is the "pro version" ??? As you can see, this is really confusing! Plaese shed some light on this. What I am wanting is what ever equals to the Ti 4200 in the newer version of Ge Force video cards!

There is a big leap from GeForce4 to GeForce FX.
If you want to see some information on the GeForce TI cards you can click Here. As an avid computer gamer myself.. I find the GeForce4 TI series of cards to be awesome for every game I have played using my TI 4200. No complaints whatsoever. Here are some stats on the FX card: 500Mhz Core Clock DDR2 1.0Ghz Memory - Fastest on the market currently for graphics GPU cards 400Mhz RAMDAC's DVI-I and TV OUT And it offers TRUE 128-bit studio quality color. ==== I wouldnt get an FX right now.. only because its going to be hard to find any computer games that can even use the full potential of the card "yet". Seems hardware always moves faster than software.. and right now the GeForce4 series is still doing really well with all of the games on the market. If you have the money.. go for an FX.. but if you just want to get a card.. a TI 4200 or 4600 will be more than sufficient.
