Question GF 2 Mx400 tv 64m OR GF 4 mx400 tv 64m ????

Hi everyone,
I got another question 4 u's.

O yea...by the way i did a typo on the thread name it should be GF4 mx 440 instead of mx 400......

On my new computer that i'm building i wanna get a good vid. card that'l keep me under the max budget.

Wat do u reckon is better?,
The GeForce 2 Mx400 Tv 64m OR
The Geforce 4 Mx440 Tv 64m

I dont know anything about vid. cards, but i guess the geforce 4 would be better cause its newer :?
Well thanx everyone.

Well it's mostly what is the price difference and how much ya really wanna spend. Are you a hardcore gamer that will really benefit from the couple of extra frames per second? I still have my Geforce2 GTS with 32megs of ram and I am still pretty content. I will more then likely wait on another video card until they comeout with something major. So I vote for the Geforce2 just because it is cheaper and still capable of handling the games that are out right now.

Good point George

One of the most important things to consider when building your next system should be what it's main purposes will be. It's hard not to get caught up in the rapidly accelerating market of the "next big thing" on the market. Then again, that's what places like this are for

Keep us updated on that system of yours jonnyb, and let us know what the final system specs will be

~Peace

Sounds like a good system, if you are going to be into the gaming I would maybe opt for the better video card but you need to decide if the price difference is going to worth it for the difference in frame rates. With the way they are advancing products nowadays everything will be obsolete within a couple months anyway. I am a big MSI fan because their boards are really good and usually a good bit cheaper in price. My last board is an Abit and I am extremely impressed with it but it hasn't converted me to where I will never own another MSI

Yea,
thanx for your help
i think i'l go with the 64m gf2 ti DDR Tv
as u say everything is advancing so fast...but i dont have an income and i'm still in high school so i cant afford to upgrade often, so whilst i can i should get a good one, that'l last for a year or 2.

thanx,

Basically I just think of the Geforce2 MX versions to be the higher version of the original geforce256 because the benchmarks aren't much better. The Geforce4 MX400 would be your best bet. Either that or buy the MX460 which is a little bit more expensive. But anyways, I would say go with the Geforce 4 because it has alot of new instruction sets in it, so that it can do more. Especially the Nfinite II Engine which runs excellent. Anyways that is just my view on it. It's worth the extra cash for a Geforce4 MX460 or so, rather than the stupid Geforce2 MX200 or MX400.

Geforce 4 mx440 or geforce 2 Titanium either one, their both 64m.

i heard the Titanium geforce 2 is better because it has a better 3d graphics rendering engine over the mx series because the mx series were made just for simple games and graphics and the titanium series was made for really cool games.......i wanna play stuff like medal of honour and renegade........wat do u guys reckon?

Well since you said you would like this upgrade to last for at least a year and you do want to play more intensive games I would go with something like the Geforce2 Ultra cards with the 64Mb DDr, or a mid end Geofrce3.

Truthfully even thought you may get a little better framerates on the Geforce2 Titanium I would say just stick with the Geforce4 MX440 or 460. It will last you a little longer in my opinion since new engines are put in it. :p

Do not waste your $$ on the GF4 Mx. In fact if you can get one for free.... DON'T USE IT.

In the new Maximum Pc magazine there are a few articles that talk about this in great detail, so I will take most on my info from there.

The GF4 MX is inferior to even the GF3ti in almost every benchmark. It doesn't contain any programmable pixel shaders or vertex shaders. "Chevy used to sell 2 versions of the Camero - 1 with a high output V8 and the other with a detuned V6 - but no one ever demanded that the V6 be called a Cavalier." So basically the GF4 MX is a detuned GF2 that costs more.

How about this for an option? For an additional $20 over the price of the GF4 Mx ($180) you can have the GF4 Ti 4200 ($200) with 128mb of RAM and contains all the shaders and advanced options.

Its all a name game!!

Well that always works I guess. Depends if he wants to spend the money. Besides, look at the bright side, you still get more FPS on the Geforce4MX than on the Geforce2MX.

Precisely.....i have not enough money
the best i can afford is the geforce 2 Ti 64m cause i'm getting cheap. In american dollar i'd say i'm paying about $110 for it, but over here everything costs more (shipping)........... then u also have to add the exchange rate so its probably a bit cheaper than that.....i dunno !? !?!?!?

But thanx for all your help,
