budget video card: 9550 / 9600xt ??
Hi,
Video card newbie, here ... ork, ork, ork *slaps flippers together* I'm on a bit of a budget. The card I'd REALLY like to get is a Radeon 9800 pro aiw 128 mb ..... but I'd have to switch from herring to kraft dinner for 2 months, to be able to come up with the $$ for this card, which I notice gets alot of very positive comments, from most folks Plan "B" ... try an older Radeon card. My local store is flogging the older 9550 cards for fire sale prices. The 9600xt is a better performer, but they're charging an extra $ 100 for that one. No major "gamers" in the family ... my teenage son plays mostly Medal of Honour and Battlefield 1942 ... with a couple of flight / combat flight simulator pgms thrown in for good measure. If I have to go the plan "B" route ... what are your thoughts on the 9550 and 9600xt ?? Many thanks, |

9600xt is a class better than 9550 imho. 9550 is stated to be the king of the low-end market so for a budget card I would recommend you to go for it. Of course as an NVidia fan I would recommend going with NVidia, but the price comparison shows that you cannot find at least 5700 (clear, not LE, not 64bit) for the price of 9550. So go for the 9550.
Good luck |
