Geforce 4 is now here!
Well guys as most of you know today, the Geforce4 just came out with the Geforce4 4600 as there flagship chip, with a nice amount of DDR RAM, to make a total of 128MB, twice as much as the Geforce2 and 3 boards. Now for some reason, this chip seems to have a performance increase of about i'd say 10% over the Geforce3 Ti500. :? Anyways below are the specs on the two chipsets.
Geforce3 Ti500 Graphics Core:256-bit Memory Interface:128-bit DDR Fill Rate:3.84 Billion AA Samples/Sec. Operations per Second:960 Billion Memory Bandwidth:8.0GB/Sec. Geforce4 4600 Triangles per Second:136 Million Fill Rate:4.8 Billion AA Samples/Sec. Operations per Second:1.23 Trillion Memory Bandwidth:10.4GB/Sec. Maximum Memory:128MB They also say that the memory is supposed to be increased by 300%. On the benchmarks over at www.guru3d.com. Below are some of the benchmarks posted on the site from what they have tested from there own Creative Blaster Mx420 board. Quake III Framrate Benchmark 800x600 1024x768 1280x1024 1600x1200 GeForce2 MX 400 88.2 55.53 33.17 22 GeForce4 MX 420 124.03 82.77 50.8 33.8 GeForce3 Ti 200 175.37 153.63 113 80.7 I respect guru3d and from what it seems I agree with them when they say that the geforce4Mx 420 is only newer version of the Geforce2Mx 400. Although the performance increase is about 30-40FPS I am wondering how the Geforce4 4600 hundred will perform. On the spec sheet it doesn't seem like much but if you can get an extra 30 to 40 FPS on the MX card maybe we will see a performance on the 4600 card to be around the same or even more. Maybe the 3dMark2001 from www.madonion.com will even go up by 1000 or more! Can't wait to see the 4600 version. :p For 400 dollars though I don't know if I would want it though. I originally paied 400 for my Geforce3, and look how fast that went out of date. Maybe the Geforce4 4600 will stay around a bit longer. The rest of the estimated prices are up at www.guru3d.com so go check them out and stuff. Anyways that's about it, hope you guys will post your comments after reading this little article. :smilewink If not then I will be very upset and probably look like this. Well probably not, but post what you think. So everyone can have some opinions floating and what your thinking about this chip. Well i'm out. There is a forum up also if you would like to vote on the chip which you have/most likely to buy.

Very nice article. I would have to agree you, I won't be rushing out to buy this board anytime soon either. I am still using my ATI all-in-wonder Radeon, and its been very good to this point even with only 32mb on board. I found it funny that ATI released a new version of their 8500 Radeon now with 128mb DDR ram on board. From what I understand, there isn't anything really new on the ATI board, and the geForce4 will be about 30% faster in most applications.
I would be interested to hear from any of those crazy people who have already purchased a geForce4 to see how they really like it. -JRW |

hahaha
Yeah tell me about it. Although 128MB DDR RAM would be nice, shouldn't they have come out with this earlier? Don't get me wrong I will get either Geforce4 or Geforce5, but I see no reason to at the moment unless when people buy it the benchmarks are amazing. The jump from Geforce2 to Geforce3 was amazing, but this little thing Nvidia is doing now... Makes them seem like they are in it for the cash.

I have no plans to upgrade my video card anytime in the real near future since I have had much time for gaming lately. I definately like the new geforce 4, might not be in the too distant future I get me one. I gotta talk the wife into it first

I wouldn't doubt it if he tried to OC his video card. He has tried everything else. The fortunate part is he has suceeded, unlike me who always fails. I couldn't overclock my Geforce3 from VisionTek very well. I got the cute up by like 10MHz. I find that pathetic.
Frames when up by like 2 or 3. YAY FOR ME!
