Sound Issue - I am stumped

Ok so here is the issue,

Yesterday my computer was working just right, today I came back to it and the sound isn't really wanting to work. No video, audio files or anything audio related will play sound, but from time to time I will hear the 2 note error sound in the backround followed by a short time (few seconds) where audio will play fine. There hasnt been a pattern to the error sound.

What happened in 24 hours?

Lion7718 will become famous soon enough
Make sure your speaker plug is in tight..also try playing a mp3 & wiggle the cord.
I have a problem with mine..where it just doesn't get full contact. It plugs in fine, but if I move it by moving another cord or plug..my sound will go out or just sound tinty..when that happens..I don't get 1/2 the sounds I normally would.
Also, did you install any audio/video programs in the last few days..the problem might only now surfaced cause of a re-boot.
Check your Sound in the CP & make sure your Soundcard is listed from the dropdown menu..3rd tab..also check the system volume levels from the 1st tab.
If you have an extra set of speakers..plug them in & see what happens.

I had checked the plugs, switched it to a different audio port even and it still gives me the same results.

Tried rebooting also with nothing new.

The only really curious thing is I use the onboard audio from my asus board and the driver/app. that comes along with it. When I run the speaker test in the windows sound options the audio doesnt come through, but when i use the test speaker option in the asus program it works every time.

not quite sure what this means.
