Media Player Locks-up!!

I'm not sure this question belongs here; but I've got a problem. I can't seem to play any audio files for more than 1 min or so and then the puter locks up. I have the same problem running different media players. I'm using XP's media player with default settings, which I ran all the tests that are included, and it test OK. My system is AMD 850mhz, 750mb ram, 60gb hd. Can someone help me?

jrwap is on a distinguished road
Are you trying to play .mp3 files, .wav files, or directly from a CD?

Have you tried using another media player like RealOne player or winamp?

Does the whole system lock up or just Xp media player?

Have you downloaded and successfully installed the latest drivers for you sound card? What sound card is it? There were alot of reports about some CL SB Live5.1 cards not working well under Xp.

Im guessing that this isn't a new system, so you probably were able to play music at one time... I hope. Did you install new software or hardware which may be causing these problems, because your system should have no problems playing music.

BTW - Welcome to PcTechTalk!!!!
