Angry Very annoying click with keypress...

I've been experiencing a VERY annoying "click" on my computer when music is playing (winamp) or a game is running and I press a key on the keyboard. It will click every 10-30 characters, or if I hold a button down. The click is very brief and audible.

I reinstalled the OS for another reason but this did not solve the click. I have updated the BIOS on my motherboard to the latest. I have updated the motherboard's drivers too. I have also updated the soundcard drivers to the latest. In the BIOS, I have the onboard sound turned OFF.

I do not get this click with my mouse or with any other input device. The fact that it is clicking only with the keyboard (to me) suggests that there is some sort of weird conflict with the input of the keyboard and the output of the speakers. There are no conflicts or anything for the IRQs.

The next step I plan to take is to switch the audigy to it's own IRQ (right now it is sharing with my video card)...I have plenty of open ones because I disabled the legacy serial/com/midi/etc ports. After that, I'm going to enable the onboard sound, disable the audigy, and try the speakers from the onboard instead.

Does anyone have any suggestions or have had any similar experiences with this type of problem?

Here's the info:

OS: Win2k Pro
Mobo: Asus a7n8x deluxe v2.0
soundcard: audigy 2 value

Is it a sound from the speakers or the PCspeaker? What happens if you just try do disable all sounds in Windows Control Panel->Sounds and choose a NoSounds scheme? Or could it be the Sticky keys option of Windows (XP afaik) when you press a key 5 times or hold it down for a few second?
That's all I can think of now... hope to bring some ideas

not sure if it's the same, but the same annoying tick is in ASUS laptops. It's not controlled by keystrokes or something, but just at regular intervals that it makes a click like a click in windows explorer. I once nailed the thing down till I was in the bios and got the click as well... from that point I knew it had nothing to do with Windows... sorry Bill for blaming you before!

the speakers. I have the no sounds scheme already selected...it doesn't have anything do do with the windows sounds. It's not sticky keys either (they are disabled and those are only like shift etc that trigger it). It's not a regular interval either, it only ticks when there is sound being output and I'm typing.

After a little more digging, I have come across this:
http://forums.creative.com/creativel...cending&page=1

So it appears that ASUS motherboards have a problem with the audigy cards. I came across this: http://us.creative.com/support/kb/ar...p?l=2&sid=6516

I just rebooted and fiddled a little with my BIOS settings....and now typing this message I haven't had a single pop!! The two things that I changed were the boot virus detection (I doubt that it was this) and the FSB spread spectrum control (I set it to 0 from .5%)....this setting reduces EMI by slightly modulating the master clock of the motherboard...

This is fantastic news for me, and it APPEARS that I have fixed the problem. If I still get problems, I'm going to just buy a ps/2 to usb converter and use that because one guy said that's how he fixed his. Well, thanks for your help anyway .
