Question I have a problem !

I built a new pc today the MB is an epox 8kha+ and I can't get the audio to work ... I tried everything I know of but don't get a peep !

I installed my sound blaster out of another machine and disabled the other sound card ... EVerything is set up fine with no conflicts. But still not a sound ... I know the speakers work as I was using them on this PC this morning ...

Any ideas ??

That is weird, so the onboard sound and the sound card doesn't work? I would try moving the sound card to another slot, the other thing would be is I wonder if the drivers for the onboard sound are conflicting with the sound card drivers. Also double check all of your connections, and make sure the volume isn't muted somewhere by the OS.

OK this might be a long shot but ....

The speakers I am trying are off of my wifes HP (the speakers suck) they draw power from the sound card ...

Now my suspicion is that the on board sound card will only play using powered speakers ? (feasiable argument?) Anyway I am borrowing powered speakers in a couple of hours and will let you all know how it goes ...

Just wish my Audigy and ATP5 speakers would hurry and get here !

I would agree John that the HP speakers won't work on your system. Especially if they are supposed to be powered by either the sound card or on board system. I would put $100 on it that the powered speakers will work

haha yeah the HP speakers have so little volume unless you use one of those crappy HP sound cards. I have myself Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 they were like 300 bucks or something, but well worth the money, they are like a surround sound system. The sub woofer can even annoy my neighbors, so that is sound for you. Or the Promedia 2.1 is good if you only wanna spend like 150 bucks.

Hey John,
What kind of Creative sound card was your old one? If it was a SBLive 5.1 have you noticed much of an improvement going to the audigy?

The sound is amazing ... Its probably the best feature of the computer .. Everyone is totally blown away by it .. The speakers distort a little when the volume is high but halfway is deafening !
