Hi,

a friend of mine who dj's is thinking of setting up a computer system for dj'ing.

is there a sound card out that is capable of handling a set of large home speakers and a pair of 15 inch subs?

Adding a computer to a sound system, and for the purpose of DJing is quite a good idea. Even a laptop would do the job and would be more portable. I would think that any Sound card would work and sound just as good as the next. The only limitations would the amount of money you would want to spend and the features you would like to have to use. I do not think though that you would be able to go directly from the computer to a set of speakers. I don't know of any sound card that would work ..or even be practical. the best way would be, to take the outs of the soundcard...the same ones that you would use to plug into a computer speaker and plug them into a preamp Instead or some type of mixing board...from there into a EQ and then into an amp. Again the only limitations would be the amount of money you spend on the equipment and the features you would want

I have a friend who's done this. It's really very good way, as you can store lots of music on a harddrive. Unfortunately, sound cards aren't designed to put out large amounts of power, so here's what I'd reccomend doing:

If you're going to use a laptop, be sure it has either Digital Audio Out, or preferably, Optical out. If you use a desktop, you can always just get a new sound card with optical. Then, plug it into a normal Audio reciever (Dolby DTS good, 5.1 better, 7.1 best) which then powers the speakers. If you really want to be impressive, you can also get a video card with TV out (preferably with Dual monitor support so you can put visualization on the TV, and mix/etc on the monitor) and use Visualizations for a nice picture while you're DJing.

Hope this helps.
