When I had Mcafee on my old computer, I got Chernobyl and Nimbda. Since I've used Norton, not one has gotten through.

Huzzah!

Well I have used Norton as long as I have used a computer and never had a virus...but it is always go to have a firewall, too. So remember a anti-virus is good..but combine that with a firewall is even better.

Anti-virus programs are a PAIN IN THE ARSE. especially norton. They all bog down your system, and if you are careful (and keep your system up to date) you have no chance of catching one. Personally, as I am a programmer, i know of all the ways a virus can infect a system... I cover my ass, and I have never contracted a virus. also, i have never kept an antivirus program on my computer for more than 24 hours. As far as i am concerned, the AV programs are the virus. I will not infect my system with Norton AV 200x it's just stupid!

I've added the "No virus, no AV" option to the poll, because leaving it out is madness

I got the flu virus one time making out with a chic......I used a trojan honest! but it didn't help any......

I had a trojan once, right after I installed Aqualime. I soon after installed Norton AV and Firewall till the expiration ran out. (I reinstalled everything when I got a new mobo and reinstalled the same Norton free for another year!)

I use Kaspersky Antivirus http://www.avp.ru and I can assure you that this is the best AV program to use.
As for the viruses I've had some but had them for testing purposes only!!!

yoyyooy... Well because I've got 800 mhz to use and a lot of the time if 5% of those are used by a file scanning system or a program subclassing the windows file system, that could mean the diference between life and death on quake. Also I have an inflated ego as far as managing my own system goes - I attempt to utulize windows security to it's fulles measures - just like in linux, if you create yourself a user accout to actually USE your computer with theoretically you should never be able to hard your system no matter how harmfull the "virus" may be.

P.S. Me have been drinkin'

I've never been infected before... Any virus files I've got hold of have been stopped before they can do a thing... Most of the time AVG runs 24/7 on my system. Also PCCillin's online virus scan "HouseCall" is worthwhile running once in a while!

U one thing to keep in mind is that if a virus has been edited it becomes a new virus, and it often becomes difficult for anit-virus software to detect. Just thought I would add a little bit of what a pretty damn good programer told me...

I have to agree with gbread!! I use the trend micro AV software that comes with fixit utilities!! and bullet!! I use XP as well and the trend micro that comes with fixit works just fine!! I've tried pretty much all the programs there are out there(cept for that kaspersky one--anyone know anything bout that one??) and they all seem to work okay. norton does work well, but certainly no better than the others and personally I see no point in installing a monster like NAV to do what other much smaller programs will do just as well(in my experience BETTER!! kinda like hunting ducks with a bazooka!!

I've only ever had some of those sub7 trojans, do they count as virus's?? oh and I also use a firewall black ice
