A good text editor?

What would you recommend as a good text editor? I'm currently using the demo of TextPad which I like.

Any others I should look at? What do people think of UltraEdit?

Hi Darren
You might want to check this out as well ---->click Me<----
The light version is freeware
Personally I use DreamWeaver & CuteFTP (which comes with Cute HTML, another text editor)

Hope this helps, and i'm sure there are others here that will chime in

I guess it depends on what you are using it for. If I am doing html I always use notepad. It is easier for me to make a webpage with a text editor then using a program like Frontpage or Dreamweaver. I never really tried any other editors but I might have to snoop around and try some out. I'll just add it to my ever growing list.

Thanks, I'll have a look at NoteTab.

I like Dreamweaver for my general webdesign stuff, but for editing my vBulletin templates I think a text editor is better.

I figured I would post an update on what I have been using, I still don't use frontpage or dreamweaver to do anything, I don't have time to learn either plus they always insert a bunch of extra junk that I don't like. I have been using editplus2 for a year now and I use it for eveything, I have always done all my coding through text of some sort, and editplus makes it pretty easy to work efficiently.

It may be a little more than what you are looking for, but you might want to check out OpenOffice. Its a full featured suite of programs available on multiple platforms (all free) that can read and write all file formats that MS Office can.
