    Fav Browser Poll

Looks like here on UTC's meadows Opera is one of the buzzwords in browsing. That surprised me at first, but after I tried I can't say anything other than: Opera 6.03 Rulezzz!

    This leads to a poll!!!!!!!!

What is YOUR favourite browser, and why should we be using it ?

I'm sorry (to myself mostly) but i'm afraid i'll have to agree with Unite. It's probably the only decent piece of software microsoft have released.. and what a suprise! it's free!

    Free software = GOOD software...

Mostly i'd agree that open source software (Mozilla) would be better.. but i don't think it applies in this case

Because of compatibility, I still use IE. But I must say, I use Opera 6.03 more & more everyday. Especially if I have surfing to do. No pop-ups feature is hard to beat. I have to use Pop-Up Stopper Pro for IE.

I'm a zonealarm pro user, which i find is incredibly efficient at blocking popups and ads (in any browser)

Well I don't consider myself part of the collective with Bill and the other Borg! They lead me to believe I have a free mind... But agreed, IE is a nice browser and 'free' up to a point. It's mainly the privacy stuff that turns me off, and Opera IS speedy! Netscape is long lost for me. Dunno why, just don't like it. Seems to have the better security features though (as read on Cnet's browser head-to-head contest.)

Some sites happen to crash my Opera I found out yesterday, that is a defnite turn-off ofcourse! So I may have judged too soon (should've known better as IT nerd).

"Everything works in IE" because IE lets web designers write crappy html that is not to W3C specifications. Granted no browser is completely up to W3C specs but Opera comes a hell of a lot closer than IE.

The more people use IE, the more sites that are going to be written with IE only in mind. Bill should not dictate the way the web looks or works.

Don't give web authors easy ways into nasty bad habits, help the web move forward. Use Opera.

I've been a dedicated Netscape user since way back to the first versions, but site compatibility has become an issue, Netscape doesn't always render a site correctly, more and more errors, sooooooo..now IE is becoming my browser of choice.

Well I don't see what is so good about Opera. It has banners and they want you to pay for it. IE works with everything I'm not saying Opera is bad but it does not display this site corectly...and I know it's coded right. Hell 95% of this site is PHP. I have gone through 50% of the code by hand and have not seen any real sloppy code. There have been a few errors but nothing bad.

Running the forum index page (default view) through the W3C check yielded these results http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...doctype=Inline

To check the XP version I had to save a copy of the html output and upload to the W3C for validation. There was no way to link the results so I saved the page they returned, zipped it, and attached it below.

Just because 95% of this site is PHP doesn't mean anything. PHP is just processed server side to output html and the html it puts out is only as good as what the script author told it to put out.

(Note: the W3C also provides CSS validation services. While I did not run these checks I did see some typos in the CSS used here. Worth looking at.)

Well I guess I cant be blamed then. I did not code this software lol. I will still stick with the industry standard IE and Netscape. Opera will never make it, the reason is it will never be included in MS OS or any other for that matter. Also most people will not pay for it and people don't like change.....Just the facts.
