i un-installed it, and did a complete new install, and it prompted me again for data1.msi
i searched the cd, and i seached my hard drive, and its not there!
im useing microsoft office XP pro version 2002.
i also tried to go to miscrsoft and get patches for any updates, and again it wants data1.msi

It should be there if it installs the Office. However check these topic:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=offxp
Sounds similar to your problem although the decision is weird.
try running the setup, and change any option to either install, or to never install. Leaving any option set to, run of first or run from cd will ask for a cd. another thing, if you are a real advanced user of windows and understand class id's and lcoations you can search the registry to find what class id is assigned to the office msi. that class id will have a corresponding file in c:\winnt\installer. Its a hidden directory that remains hidden even if show hidden files and directories is enabled. Anyway in that folder there is a msi with the class id on it. The purpose of this file part of the self repairing feature with MSI technology. Normally it works really well, but when ti doesnt,.you got problems. I'd suggest uninstalling completeley, then doing a reinstall, choosing custom, and setting the options either not installed, or install to hard drive.

the other cd says "media content"

...that's office 2000!
there is a data1.msi on my office 2000 disk.
it's about 2 MB
im installing microsoft office XP pro, version 2002, i have un-installed 2000, and did a complete install useing 2002, and the screen shot is showing data1.msi.
i do not know why its showing 2000, and i dont have the cd's for office 2000
im ASSUMING, any files 2002 needs would be on the cd, since i did a complete install from scratch!

put the first disk of your office 2000 cd. I'm guessing there is a component of office 2000 that wasnt upgraded by office xp. its possible and ahppens especially if you have the office 2000 pro, and you only have office xp small business edition. They include fdifferent components of office... usually its front page and a bunch of clip art ant **** like that. Throw the 2000 cd ina nd see if it5 goes away.

Is it possible that some files from the older version were left behind, and are corrupting the 2002 install?
i dont have office 2000 cd's....2000 came with my computer, maybe i should just uninstall it again, and make sure there are no files lefT!
any other suggestions, is there alot of different data1.msi's for 2000?....maybe i can get the cd's for 2000 at work on monday, and look for data1!
any other suggestion?
BTW guys....i hope you know i appreciate all of your help!![]()
