    Cool Running two firewalls?

Just out of curiousity , can I run multiple firewalls same time ie getting "double" security? I'm now using Sygate Personal Pro and was considering something like Outpost Personal Pro 2 or BlackICE Defender v3.5 to add something in my shielding. And no! ZA is not an oPtion
Anyone has any experiences about using fw-combos?

It is not a good idea to run 2 Firewalls at the sametime, from what I have read anyway...it will cause some conflicts & use alot of resources. It has been said not to even have 2 Firewalls installed...but I have ZA & Sygate installed...I run ZA all the time, than shut it down about 2-3 weeks & run Sygate for a day or two...to keep it updated to my system.

What's wrong with ZA ? if i may ask.
I've been using ZA pro for quite a while now,no problems so far, blocks everything, closes every port i want to be closed.
    Just curious

It f***ed up my system BIG time! Had to reboot in Safe Mode and uninstall it 'coz every time I tried booting after ZA install I got this message that Windows was being shut down to avoid hardware damage! It is hard to use a fw if your OS doesn't even launch
Besides it effectively cleared my uninstall menu from programs, they are still installed, I just can't uninstall them properly And note: I wasn't using any other fw's at that time...

Actually, this is one of the best ways to secure your machine. LOL. You won't be affected by anything except the OS itself.

By the way: it is a wrong thing to think that 2 firewalls double your shields. It probably only gives trouble.

Besides of that, what do you want exactly? A firewall or a policy manager? The last one for instance checks whether application A may connect 1) at all 2) to a specified host 3) on a given port 4) etc. Another example is that it checks whether application B is allowed to open a port and listen to in on your computer, thus 1) opening port x 2) accepting connections from a specified host 3) etc.

A firewall only drops, rejects, forwards, masquerades and allows packages. This has nothing to do with applications, but pure with source and destinationaddress of your IP packages.

Firewall + policy manager in one package, please
Ok, so it's not worth it to use two fw's.

Uh, well actually there are two types of firewalls you can use at the same time

    1) hardware firewall + software firewall

    2) 1 regular firewall+ 1 firewall that only keeps things "in" unless you let them access the internet...

BlackIce can be used as an addition to any firewall I think. It's not a firewall but a kind of filter. I'll try to find the article for this.
