    Talking MSN Messenger 6.0 Details

    from Neowin.net

Yesterday we exclusively revealed the release date for MSN Messenger 6.0 and discussed the possibilities for the future of both Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger. Today more details have emerged about what MSN Messenger 6.0 will bring. According to reliable sources close to neowin, MSN Messenger is indeed going straight for the consumer and leaving Windows Messenger far behind (in terms of functions).

MSN Messenger 6.0, due to be released on the 17th of July will include a myriad of personalization options aimed at home users. Users will have the option to have a "My MSN Picture" which is a buddy picture of yourself displayed in much the same way as in MSN Explorer 8.0. Users will also see better Webcam support for Windows XP, more games and most importantly 75 new emoticons. There will be the possibilty to use your own emoticons, however the other person you are chatting to will have to have these emoticons too - this isn't very clear at this stage.

For everyone into Instant Messaging and for the guys over at Mess with MSN Messenger it will be a great release. This kind of customization doesn't stop here though. Also included will be "chat backgrounds" (allowing users to customize what they see whilst they are chatting) and the ability to log MSN Messenger conversations (the guys over at Messenger Plus! might have something to say about that one). Whatever happens, on the 17th of July MSN will have set up services specifically targetted at it's MSN 8 subscribers to combine the functionality of MSN Messenger 6.0 with that of MSN Explorer 8.5.

not the background of the buddylist, but the background of the chat window itself.

    yahoo!

No matter how good msn may get, Yahoo messenger will always be one step ahead. Ive been using both clients for a while now and i give a big thumbs up to yahoo... its so much friendlier than msn and your not showered with stupid adverts and oversized Tabs for different msn services which no one ever uses anyway.

Most of all i hate the fact that MSN messenger signs itself in with every bloody microsoft program that connects to the net. its so intrusive.

    anyway yahoo! is better.

I love the webcam function on yahoo.. and when superwebcam kicks in, webcam refresh is pretty fast.

    anyahoo! thats all from me.

you can turn tabs off in msn since ver 5 and ads can be gotten rid of if you know where to look. you can also turn off it signing in if you look through options of program properly. msn v6 also has support for webcams now, plus ability to play games with who ever you are chatting with. looks like that all matches up to yahoo now. plus they have also added background to your chat window, design your own emoticons and personal display pics. think i will stick with msn cause its goin far ahead of yahoo with this release

I use a prog called Trillian Pro which runs on the same network and also combines yahoo, aim and IRC. I think its better than msn messenger 5 but don't know bout the new one.
I have not failed I have just found 1,000 ways that don't work

thats only thing really with it, you can still only use it to talk to other msn users for now though i did read today that interoperability with AIM might be something for the future. that doesnt bother me at min though cause all people i chat to use msn
