I use wingate as my firewall router and it seems to do an excellent job but I use it on an old p200 which acts as my server router and a dedicated firewall
have a few freinds who swear by black ice so you might wanna give that a try.
not recomended having 2 firewalls and what use would it do it would only slow down your connection

avg is always worth a try(with the added bonus that its free)
i use this as do many others here:
http://www.grisoft.com
and just use online scans for back-up purposes(making sure avg is doing its job proper)

I use Norton Firewall and I've run several of these online security tests and I always got full scores (passed all the tests).
And it's also helped me geting rid of those annoying ads/pop-ups.
I like it!
