Gaming server ?

This probably going to be lame amoug all the talk of unix and apache but ....

How can I set up a private and/or public gaming server ?

I would like it to be internet based so people can use it while I'm not online ? Any ideas ?

Basically a private game server for people I invite to play MOH and Red Alert ... etc
