OK, i cleared the CMOS but no change. I installed the new video card and no change.
When i turn the PSU on, the green light on the mobo goes on, but when i press the case's power switch, nothing happends, its as if its not even connected to the psu. I honestly have no idea what to do, im starting to fear the worst and think to myself thats £400 down the drain.

I'm going to suggest that you logon to the asus help desk and let their support team look at the problem. It sounds like a bios problem to me.
You may have a faulty mobo. It happens. Quality control doesn't check every board that comes off the assembly line. Batch sampling. Assembly line techs are responsible for checking each board, but they often get behind and let a few slide through without testing them. ASUS HELP DESK...you can start a running dialog here with technical support. Just fill out system specs and describe the problem and they "should" work with you until the problem is resolved. Before you throw more good money after bad...

I think NUTNDUN may be right with the fan trying to draw too much power :

I have submitted a ticket with ASUS and i am awaiting a reply. The motherboard uses C.O.P.

Second thoughs, i think no1uknow may be right with a faulty mobo. I read a few reviews at ebuyer and a few were faulty due to not posting or powering up. here is a review for the product from ebuyer :

YYYEEESSSSSSSSSSS
The CPU and FAN is spinning up, all the power connections are all fine and great, cd room is powered up. Not sure about the hard drive though. BUT WOOHOO lol. The problem is, is that there is no BEEP and there is no POST to the monitor. The video card is plugged in but there is no post. Any ideas? WOOHOO You guys are great.. I think its the CMOS that made it go. Thanks. And the ASUS support guy was good.

What is the vid card? Cirga asked in the second post but I don't see an answer anywhere.
I think you're in good shape now. After you get video, remember to run setup and enter optimum values in bios. Right now they're set to the board's minimum values. That shouldn't involve more than a y/n answer. |

Here's what I would try. Basically I would start over:

Unplug everything and remove all cables (hdd, floppy...),
Remove all PCI and AGP cards,
Remove the motherboard from the case,
Place the motherboard over the antistatic foam, to test it there,
Remove the CPU heatsink & fan, and the CPU itself,
Remove thermal comound from the CPU an verify that it looks ok,
Verify that the pins of the CPU are well,
Reapply thermal compound and place again the heatsink & fan,
Verify that memory is firmly placed,
Plug in the PSU, nothing else, not even video card or harddrive,
Using a screw you have to short-circuit the pins of the motherboard to power it on. Be very very careful or you can damage something! Read the manual to find out which pins to use,
If you can hear the beeps of the motherboard after post, then you can plug the video card and test; if not, or the CPU is dead or the motherboard or the PSU.
|
