i cant believe how many people have come up with the old try before you buy one, so if theres 1 track you dont like on a cd
and i think on most cds there will always be 2-3 weak tracks you get the odd 1 where every track is good but they are few and far between, but back to my original point if you d/load a cd and there are 1 or2 tracks you dont like you feel this justifys the d/load come on lets get real here this is an excuse not a reason, and if you really want to support the artist go watch em play live and buy a bit of merchandise they will see more of this money than any amount you spend on a cd. i feel we should all wake up to the fact that the no1 reason we download music, software etc is because its something for nothing and on a personal note what i do dont cost songwriters a dime cos if i didnt d/load it i wouldnt have it.

The problem with mp3s is that it is a terribly lossy format. Even at 320, an mp3 pales in comparison to the 44.1 khz PCM used to encode CDs, Which in turn can't hold a candle to 2.8224MHz DSD - all of which is a futile attempt to sound as good as an analog source.
What's the point of all that fancy stereo equipment if all you play through it is mp3s? Might as well plug it into the speaker on your alarm clock for all the good it'll do you. An mp3 is not the same as a cd. So in the end - you get what you pay for.

We use to have a local shop tht provided pre-screening of any CD and encouraged folks to listen before buying. They had seats and headphones setup for their customers. I bought plenty from 'em and was happy with my purchases 'cause I knew wht I was getting every time. Sadly, I found they were gone upon one of my return trips...

Downloading music free ?
What you need: - A pc $$$$ - burning software $ - internetconnection (modem, isp abbo)$$ - time spend finding what you're looking for $ - blanc cd's $ - power for your pc to run $ Add this all up, (i didn't give numbers, differs for everyone) and i think downloading music isn't free at all ! But in the end, you're taking something and not paying the rightfull owner, so, yes, stealing. |

You take Bill the money bags gates. I refuse to pay for updates of his sofware. For example, I use Nero burning rom. They have an update I get an update of the latest version. Not with Mr gates all you get is a bill or out you stay with what you got. My firewalls the same they update to a new version and so do I. Copyrighting sucks

In the beginning a copyright lasted 5 years. Then somebody got greedy and had enough clout to get the laws changed so the copyright lasted something like 10 years. Then some company decided 10 years wasn't long enough so they got it changed to 25 years. Then they made soo much money that they decided what the hell and got the laws changed again so pretty much a copyright lasts forever now. I can't remember the link where I got all that info, but it is true. So in essence they have been ripping us off for a long time. Not to mention the retail cost of around $15 for something that probably cost them 2-3 dollars to make. Advertising isn't that much because if an artist becomes well known they advertise themselves with television appearances, radio play, etc... We all know that the record companies are the ones getting most of the money from CD sales. Not the artists. The artists are getting screwed by the industry as bad as we are. And if it really came down to taking money out of the pockets of artists, well if one of them makes 7 million instead of 10 million, well I'm not gonna feel too bad for them.
So is it illegal? Technically yes. Morally? Well thats up to the individual. If I really like something I will buy it. If I only like one song I will download it. Eventually if I make millions too, I will use iTunes and pay for my downloads. |

IMHO the whole file-sharing is problematic concept at best, however I have no other choice but to use these networks as they are my ONLY way to get my favourite tv shows, as these few public local tv stations couldn't care much about Xena, Star Treks etc. so I see no problem of using them...

Since starting on the road of p2p's i think i've bought more cd's that ever. it's good to use to get a taste of the bands and the rarer records that are out of print, also bootlegs and stuff but after a while of listening to 30th generation copies it's nice to hear it properly. Plus we have a local shop now that knocs out new cd's at about £14UK and older ones at £3UK
