SCO VS. FREE

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

A mediocre size business has a couple of issues. They have a dual pentium 2 machine with raid that their current version of SCO doesn't support. they would have to upgrade to the latest version of SCO which could cost numerous amounts of money. On the other hand they have a choice of linux, which is free, more widely supported, and can run a lot more software than SCO at faster speeds. They have mental issues deciding if its worth risk to switch.

NOW WHATS YOUR ISSUE?

ok here is my personal opinion. I think linux is the way to go. If these guys can handle SCO, they can more than likely handle linux.

SCO is using any means to get some money; nothing more. Their claims have not been proved (not yet, even they say 500 ppl that signed NDAs saw proves, that still says nothing to the rest of the world.) Their threats are based on allegations not yet proved. There is nothing, zero, empty, null. How can they sell licenses for Linux? Pay or we may sue you based on nothing, whoa, this is ludicrous... BTW, SCO released a Linux version (under GPL) that is still available on their ftp with source code (read latest IBM allegations.)

In the very unlikely case that they can prove that code has been illegally copied into Linux 2.4 and 2.5, it's just a matter of time until this code is rewritten and released as Linux 2.6. In any case SCO looses.
