I have (contrary to what many would say) had fewer problems with an AMD chip than an Intel chip. Besides...if the 'young upstart' can do it better, cheaper, and faster, why give it to the 'old fogey'?

I use intel, I have always used it and just like them better. One reason I never have tried an AMD is doesn't Intel have better compatibility with parts and junk?

Fer me the answer to this question can be summed up in one word ~ heat.

I live in a very hot climate, it eats AMDs fer breakfast. I am not the kind of person who is going to need small measures of extra performance. I don't think most of them mean much in the real world for the average user.

I think AMDs are very good processors. I would never argue that point. But I also find that cooling is a major concern for AMD users and despite what some may say, most of the savings on the CPU itself is quickly made up in the expense of additional cooling apperatus.

I feel that Intel makes a product that suits my needs straight out of the box. The less I have to worry about the better, as far as I'm concerned.

I agree! I settled for the sweet spot this time around, when putting together our home computer. AMD was simply cost effective or should I just say, good bang for the buck.

Almost like the difference between a muscle car and a volvo - some people want the extra torque - and some people just want to survive the crash!

As far as chips go, I prefer "Snyder's" although "Mike Sells" has a pretty good chip. I've never been a big "Lays" fan. "Snyder's" is best with some onion dip.

Just showing you how tech handicapped I really am.

Since this is my first pc,when i was putting the system together i looked for wich processor to get.Compared intel with amd, read some articles, saw that there was not that much difference. The only thing was the pricing,so i bought a xp1800,and so far so good,no problems, running a bit warm after a few days downloading, but solved that by adding some extra fans, cost me €15 ($15)

So i would say go for a amd processor

I think I'd go with Intel, their chips don't blow up if you take the fan + heatsink off
