This is what I am thinking of building...Any suggestions?
OK. I have a Soyo SY-K7VTA-Pro motherboard that I am thinking of replacing with an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard as well as a AMD athlon XP 2000 chip that I am going to replace with a AMD 2500 Barton chip. As well as use the fastest RAM memory the motherboard allows. (400mgz- It will probably be corsair!) I am only going to be upgrading the Motherboard, chip and RAM right now and will later on be adding a Sony DRU500AX DVD-Burner as well as the new Ge Force FX video card to it. Here is the current system specs I have at the moment: ATX case, Soyo SY-K7VTA-Pro Motherboard, AMD Athlon XP 2000 Athlon chip, Kingston 512 mb stick of SDRAM, Soundblaster Audigy 2 sound card, XFX Ge Force 4 MX 440 video card, motorola 56k modem (NOT USED), Plexwriter 40/12/40a CD Burner, Acer 56x CD drive, Zip 100 internal ATAPI drive, 3.5 disk floppy drive, and a 3Com US Robotics model CMX 2940 cable modem. (I have insightbb cable internet) If any of you" techs" have any suggestions before I buy the parts for my upgrade, or suggestions to make it better, please feel free to post! Thanks!

What PSU will you be using? Just thinking of the amount of power needed to run faster hardware etc.. running short really sucks when it does happen.
If you can.. maybe buying a bigger PSU might be a good chioce too.. like a 450w Antech or Enermax. And if you have the money.. you can get a really nice case from Xoxide right now for 50 dollars. YOu can click here to see all the cases they do. The 50 dollar one comes with UV cathodes and its nice.

Thanks Cirga! I am thinking about getting one of those cases! (Being so cheap and all) It would help to have more power! I have a 300 watt power supply in my case right now, but if I upgrade, I will probably need the extra power, however they offer power supplies at a good price also, so I may just order a 420 watt power supply! Thanks for the suggestion!

DDR 400 won't give you incresed performance because the FSB of the XP2500+ will still work at 166 MHz x 2 (333). You will get the best performance with DDR 333 (sync. operation). Since the only AMD chip that works at 200 MHz FSB is the newest AMD XP3200+, I don't think that the additional cost of DDR 400 is worth. My 2 cents...
![]() I'm also thinking about upgrading my ASUS A7A266 (XP2000+) to this same mobo (ASUS A7N8X Deluxe). I also have the Sony DRU500A (for me best buy ever ) .

Whatever you do...Make Damn sure that the case you decide to buy has GOOD AIRFLOW!!!
I have learned through experience that Airflow is the MOST important feature to look for in a case..all the extra features aren't worth a damn unless everything inside your case gets good ventilation and stays cool.

LPDad is right about that. I bought a cheap LCT case early this year that was a mini-tower. It seemed like a good deal because the case and psu (400 watt) were only 20 bucks. My components got very warm in it, and I had to buy another case. This was in the middle of January when everything was cold. That case ended up being trashed.

Hi Besure the case you get is configured so you can get to the
components after the mobo is installed and they are well away from case parts. I didn't and after building a system I found the only way I could change memory was to drop the mobo. good luck
