What do you think about this setup?

OK, I have been out of the PC scene for awhile, the last computer I had built for me seven years ago, is the one I am currently using.

I will have to have someone build the system I want, because I have never built a system myself and with the newest technology, now would be a very BAD time to try....especially since I am getting parts like a top of the line Intel chip and over $2,000.00 video card!

So what I want to know form the people that have been building awhile, is if the place I picked to build my computer has somewhat reasonable prices and if anyone has used them or knows their build reputation.

The place I chose to build my computer is called J&N Computer services. They offer:
* We custom build each system and test it extensively. All systems with O/S loaded run overnight testing.
* BIOS is flashed to most current version
* If operating system is ordered, Media is included and latest patches and drivers are loaded
* 3 year JNCS warranty on systems
* 3 year free jncs tech support, you get to talk to real technicians with hands-on experience
* Extremely heavy-duty packaging, all original boxes/documentation included

This is their URL

http://www.jncs.com/

My system is going to be listed under high Performance then ultra high performance and this is what I picked out to go in it.

So what do you guys think? Is this a good system?

Are there other places I can get the same system cheaper with the same kind of service?

Like I said, I have never built a computer system, but I SURELY do not want to experiment on one like this! So,someone will have to build it for me.

This IS an expensive system I know.......but to me, it is my dream system. It should fly! I am getting a lot of money on a land deal and wanted a system that would last for a long while. I figure this may fit the bill.

I know there is always going to be something faster the computer manufacturers are working on, but I also know that if you get a decent system, it should last you awhile...at least it has worked for me all these years. Though the computer I have now was nowhere NEAR being top of the line even when I had it built.

System Specs: ATX generic case with Antec 550 watt power supply. ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard. Western Digital 7,200 RPM 40 gig IDE Hard Drive.(FAT 32- file system) AMD Athlon XP 2600 processor.(standard fan and heatsink-Thoroughbred Core-standard speed-NO OVERCLOCK) 1 gig of Samsung DDRAM(PC 2700- 333 mhz....2-512mb sticks running in dual channel mode).Ati Radeon 8x 9600 XT (8x is enabled on motherboard). Soundblaster Audigy 2 sound card. Motorola sb 5100 cable modem (Insight Communications-Cable Connection) Sony DRU 500 AX DVD- RECORDER.(records -R/-RW or +R/+RW and CD-R formats-4x-24x-4x) LG 52x32x52 CD Burner. Zip 100 internal drive and a generic 3.5 floppy drive. Windows XP Professional Operating System. I also have a bearpaw scanner, HP Deskjet 3520 inkjet printer and a KDS X Flat 17 inch CRT monitor.

i would say your paying a little over the odds for the optical drives as you can buy a retail boxed LiteOn 20X SATA DVD±RW/RAM With Beige, Black & Silver Bezel + Nero for around $45 (£22.48 inc tax on ebuyer uk) but appart from that the prices look about right, i would ask them to throw in Power DVD & Nero 8 it were me buying it.

that sure is going to be one monster system - Enjoy

Yeah, they are a little overpriced on that DVD burner, but I figured I can always talk to a sales guy and maybe get a little better deal...especially since I am buying such a monster system!

I will do as you suggested before I order. Thanks!

Also, it IS kinda nice to be able to get all the high end stuff in one place and have them build and test it out to make sure it is working.

For someone like me that is not good at putting even a regular computer system together, it is nice to have a place to go that does it for you with decent prices.

When I get the money for my land and purchase it, I will be sure to post back about how it performs and the customer service they have, so others can make a decision about buying from them.

Bloody 'ell!

Sounds like a great system, and if all the testing and warranty etc. is included then that is not a bad price.

Just wondering though, do you know if they test your new monitor for dead pixels? And if they do, will they replace the monitor with one with NO dead-pixels at all? [that would be amazing! ]

Would love to see a 3dmark06 benchmark and some other results. Post em when you can!

Well as far as the testing....they say they test the system overnight with a purchase of an OS....so I am guessing that they DO also check the monitor for dead pixels as well, but I do not know for sure.

But they have an 800 number that I can talk to someone live, so before I get my system I will ask about that, thanks.

Another thing....someone on another forum said that the Quadro video card I picked out was basically a CAD or workstation card.

They suggested going with an 8800 Ultra for gaming. So I will probably do that.

I've just read this, $8,049.00 for a PC with Windows XP?!?!?! Man, you have money to burn For $2.000 you can get a PC that is almost as fast (let's say 10% slower or less) and still have $6.000 to burn in many, many other stuff .

Something like this is quite capable. Add another one in SLI for a killer setup. If you want very high resolutions, over 1600x1200, then the 8800 GTS with 512 MB will be more adequate, but I don't recommend getting the latest and greatest, it's always very expensive and performance versus cost don't scale equally by far!
