Motherboard compatability

Excuse my computer language because im a noob.
Im looking to buy a motherboard that is compatabile with pentium 4 and has a pci express 16x. I only want to replace my motherboard and video card. Do i have to make sure my HD and my drives support it or will all the motherboard support it. What about the cables and wires, do i have to look for a motherboard that supports the number of pins that is connected to the HD and drives or do all of them have the same number of pins.

What are your current HDDs? PATA or SATA? If you have SATA drives then your migration will be easier. PATA is barely supported in latest mobos. For example: THIS Biostar mobo does not support Parallel ATA drives.
And one more thing you need to have in mind is the P4 socket... is it Socket 478 or Socket 775. I suspect it is Socket 478 if it's older. So you need to search for a socket 478 mobo.
As you see there are many questions

Good luck

p.s. And Welcome to PCTechTalk

It's PATA - I have the same . So we have to find a Socket 478, PCI x16, PATA mobo. That significantly narrowed the searches

When i checked samsung, it says this:
Formatted Capacity = 80GB
Ultra ATA 133 compatible (Default : UDMA 100 Mode 5)
Fluid Dynamic Bearing Spindle Motor Technology
High Speed Dual Digital Signal Processor (DSP) Based Architecture
ATA S.M.A.R.T. Compliant
ATA Security Mode Feature Set
ATA Host Protected Area Feature Set
ATA Automatic Acoustic Management Feature Set
ATA 48-bit Address Feature Set

It's PATA. I have the same at home. So I'm sure .
What they said is you can use this mobo probably because it has both PATA and SATA IDE channels
