they aint the quietest case out there, but there are ways to reduce the noise, putting speed reduction cables on your case fans will help - maybe even replace them with ultraquiet fans.
IMO 330watts is a little underpowered for todays systems, but antec have a good rep as makers of stable psu's, so as long as you dont fill it full of drives and burners you should be ok. if you like the case style but not the size of the psu, theres always the option of getting an Antec Plusview 1000 4x5.25 5x3.5 ATX Tower Case with Side Window, this is about £60 (£58.24 inc VAT from ebuyer.com ) but comes without psu. the case is a little bigger but a little sexyer as well. For a psu i would either go for a vantec stealth (as reviewed Here by NUTNDUN) or an Antec PSU True Blue 480w Blue Led Fan they are not the cheapest out there, but both are quality power supplys, and with a window on your case you want something that looks the part as well

hum, i hesitate to recomend anything i havnt had in my hands, but for a similar style of case chieftec are good, and are available in a wide range of colours.
Li-Lan ally cases are very nice (cool as well) but can be easy to damage. also built on the same basic design as the chieftec and antec cases (soho file server) is thermaltake, a little more money but a few more features, and about as far away from the 'square white box' of most pc's as you can get. this one shown here is the NOC Thermaltake XaserIII V1000J Blue with Silver Front & Window Kit Aluminium Case No PSU (a few pennys under £100 from www.novatech.co.uk) this is feature packed and designed for cooling. it has a built in 'HardCano unit' fan controler to adjust the speed of upto four fans, lcd display, USB, IEEE 1349 FireWire, Audio Input/Output ports on the front of the case. these extra features bought seperatly are going to cost you an extra £50 on top of a standard case, so the thermaltake represents excelent vaule for money and is a realy striking case.

In regards to the noise issue, I have the Antec Plusview 1000, with 5 fans not including the 2 fans on the PSU, and it really isn't noisy at all. I keep the box angled with the window facing me so I kin see all the purtiness, and I hardly ever notice any noise. I don't have any kind of fan controller, so I would imagine they are all running full speed all the time. I have used all Antec fans, 3 with leds and 2 without, so maybe they tend to run quieter.
I am really sold on this case, it was an easy case to work with and it has all the features I could want. It was on the higher side costwise, but still not too expensive considering the quality. |
