Question $1,000 = Good tower???

I am wanting to build a tower for one thousand dollars. I want 3.0 GHz Intel P4. A 512mb 3200mhz in memory and at least a 80gig hard drive. Also a dvd burner and cd burner. Is this possible??

It should easily be possible, although you could probably do it for a couple of hundred less if you went with AMD.

..but yep, I built one for one of my pharmacy techs with All the bells and whistles (it was an XP2500 though) for $850.

Just need to take your time, shop around-- especially on line at places that offer special deels and free shipping on some items.

Just make sure that the very last thing you buy is the processor, the reason being that processor prices are dropping every week.(unless you purchase everything at once)

Around a thousand is definately possible.

Dreamcaster just built a very similar system as have I. Mine was just a tad below those specs and I spent around $800 for the case, MoBo, 1 gig memory, 2.8 gig P4 cpu(800 FSB)

I already had all the drives, a video card and a sound card. (although my MoBo has onboard sound)

Now yer prolly gonna ask me what MoBo I got and I have to look it up. But if ya shop and scrimp you just might be able to get most if what you want for around that price.

Greetings Davileet531 and welcome to the board
You'll probably have to skimp somewhere to keep it under $1k if you're gonna go for a dvd burner IMO

LP's right on about buying the processor last as well.

Let us know what you end up choosing for parts and check out our bragging rights area while you're at it for info on Rasta's and my recent system builds

Yeah, I am planing to buy the tower over the next 3-4 weeks. I would buy my cpu last but I am not sure how much money I am going to make. If I wait til last they will have a whole nother line of cpu speeds out.

I can tell ya, the top of the line Pentium is always gonna cost a premium. If ya wait till they come out with a new top of the line CPU ya can getta deal.

Give it til the release of the AMD Athlon 64 processor on September 23, 2003. If Intel stop hitting targets the prices on there processors could fall meaning you might get a bargain
