I have a thermalright with a nice quiet 80mm fan

What are the specs for your fan ??

I am pretty sure we can get you fixed up and quiet.
This may sound dumb but what is the easiest way for me to get that info for you without opening up the case again?:?

Tell us about your computer.
What brand??
How old??
Motherboard??
Where did you buy the parts (heatsink--Did it come with your processor??, Fan??)

What is the loudest thing running?? (power unit fans??, exaust fans???, the whole damn thing??? etc)

You can get most specs on your computer by runnine something like sandrasoft OR, the easy way is to log on to www.belarc.com and download and run the belarc ADVISOR. it wil scan your computer and give you a listing of all your parts/software, which you can then post/send to us.

just give whatever info you have, but the best thing to do is crack the case and look, and listen for the things that are loud.

A personal favorite program for finding out a lot of info about a pc is AIDA32, it comes in handy when you are working on someones pc, and need to know a lot of specs. The save as a webpage option is good if you want to send your info to someone such as LP to see what they reccommend you change to improve preformance.

I use the CoolerMaster HHC-L61 to cool down my XP2000+ . It has heat pipes and a quien 60mm fan (3000 rpm). It's so quiet that I can only hear the PSU fan. But it's not as efficient as the standard version (7000 rpm); the standard version is a bit noisy, but perfect for overclocking.

ok here is the fan

The HSC-V62 consists of a heatsink with 36 copper fins and a cooling fan. The fan operates at 6800RPM, generates 36.11CFM, and supports RPM monitoring.

this is the link to the manufacturers page.

Tell me what you think?

OMG...I think, just maybe, that we have located your problem.

1. at 6800 RPM I am surprised that (a) you can even hear yourself think and (b) your heatsink is not trying to fly

2. according to the specs that fan ONLY puts out 36.11 CFM maximum. (then again it is only a 60 mm fan)

my advice is to dump that HSF, and replace it with a nice thermalright with a quiet 80 mm fan.
www.jab-tech.com has a very nice deal on a thermalright SLK-700 + fan (I just put one into a computer I built for a friend--very nice and quiet) for $30.... but what I suggest is getting the SLK-800and buying a nice quiet 38 CFM x 80 mm fan (running at abt 3500 RPM).
If you are interested in going this route let me know and I will give you a list of very good quiet fans to go with your SLK-800.

It's a bit noisy (specially compared with the silent 3000 rpm version) but it's also a lot more efficient than any 80mm fan thanks to the heat pipes and copper core.

A couple of months ago I had a big copper heatsink with an 80mm fan, but this CoolerMaster manages to keep the temp 5-10 degrees lower.

Thanks to LPDad i now have a new heatsink: the Thermalroght SLK-800 and a new fan: the Titan Chrome 80mm. Now my computer is quiet running and i can actually be in the room when it runs. I would recommend this combination to anyone looking.

Thanks again LPDad.

I am really glad you are happy with the results.

That SLK-800 is ALWAYS at the top of the list whenever you see a Heatsink Review-- and it is not very expensive!!
By using 80mm fans you have a big choice: Ultra Cool, Ultra Quiet, or any combination in-between.

Don't forget to do periodic cleaning with Canned Air (or something similar) to keep those fins clean and really prolong the life of your processor.
