World overclock record - 6GHz already

The record was made with a 3.6 GHz P4. 6009 MHz was the record at which the authors could take a scrshot only. 5400 MHz were stable enough for tests.
The record announciation here

I dont know what everyone is hyped about there. They didnt even double it's speed. 3.6 ghz to 6.0 = about 1.5x

If they had gone with sub-zero cooling then they probably could have done even higher.

Back in the days of the 486, and early P1 is when insane OC's were done. I had done seriously insane OC's to machines. Now adays what is the point.

And with the price of having to buy water coolers, and and and and and..... Your not saving SFA, if anything it's costing you 10x what I pay for a stable machine. Your not gaining a machine worth using, it's not gonna up your score by anything.

Today OC is a total waste of time, and money.

Who said anything about water? Air is enough.... and system could go unstable if one doesn't have enough knowledge.
See that's why OCing is extremely popular in countries where the average monthly salary is <150$ like Russia, Bulgaria, etc. Having this amount of money doesn't leave you much to buy as a computer. And you seek every opportunity to gain some more power. For example - a T-Bred B 1700+ CPU running at 2300Mhz (air cooling)(30-40$), VC ATI 9600 modded to 9600 XT or Pro (80$+) and an overall system performance increased by N%.
This all runs perfect (a friend of mine) for over a year now. It's been tortured with games, tests and yup instability is at 0% yet
Anyways I'm not trying to convince anyone - it's just my 2c

I wish I had thought to get pix, cause back in the day I use to OC some stuff to wicked new hieghts.

My first was actual soldering clock crystals together on a 286. I had a 286-10 with 4 megs of simm, I took all the clock crystals I had and soldered them together in increments of ten, First attempt I put 10x10mhz, it fired up and ran fine, so I added another 10x10mhz, it ran amazingly fast. So I added 2 banks of 10 totalling 400 mhz, and it ran for about 4 seconds, then the cpu cracked, and the heat generated unsoldered the connections for the chip.

I would love to find a supply of the old dinosaurs, 386 & 486's with what we know about cooling now, the possibilities would be endless.

d00d! i just wonder how did you manage to get that whole setup working.. this job you did sound mega-custom even in todays measures.. you would have needed bios and chipset support of the freak you created - and i don't think (unless you work as a computer hardware engineer) that you could actually get this frankenstein going...

by the way, did you even bother looking and the record data.. the guy used LN2.. don't you think this means SUB ZERO temperatures??
