What to expect from XP1700?
I'm thinking of building a XP1700 or 1800 and overclocking it. I don't have a lot to spend on the cpu and motherboard. What is a good inexpensive board for overclocking and how much of an overclock can I expect? I have some pc2700 and a Coolermaster HHC-001. Thanks.

That 1700 chip is supposed to be the best overclocker around.
I do not know about the coolermaster, but with my thermalright SLK-800U I have been able to get an 1800 up to the equiv of an XP2200. Currently I have an XP2500 barton running at 2.5 gh (approx equiv to XP3200) without breathing hard....Not bad for a chip that is currently going for $85.

Just remember the first rule of overclocking an AMD:
MAKE SURE THE FAN IS ATTACHED, RUNNING, and SYNCED. Otherwise you'll have a nice, crispy chip and mobo Other than that, The more airflow your case gets, the better, but as long as you keep your CPU at a reasonable temperature, it should run pretty nicely.
