Best Bios tweaks for the Asus A7N8X Deluxe w/ AMD 2600+ CPU??
Just got this setup running the other day and now I'm begining to tweak the over clocking settings in the bios...
there are a thousand different combinations in there! Here's my setup: AMD XP 2600+ Asus A7N8X Deluxe Serial ATA RAID IDE 512MB Dual Channel DDR400 GeForce4 Ti 4200 128MB DDR AGP 8x (by tomorrow I'll have 2 80GB Serial ATA HD's in RAID0) But now I have only one 40GB IDE drive for boot. I've tried a few different tweaks in the bios... and I have the CPU running at 2.14Ghz at the moment... w/ the memory clock at 202Mhz... In 3dmark01SE, under system info the CPU says: Manufacturer: AMD Family: ThoroughBred Internal Clock: 2.14 GHz Internal Clock Maximum: 3 GHz External Clock: 171 MHz Socket Designation: Socket A Type: <unknown> Upgrade: ZIF Socket Capabilities: MMX, CMov, RDTSC, 3DNow!, Extended 3DNow!, SSE Version: AMD Athlon(tm) XP CPUID: 0x00000681 Now does that Internal Clock Max mean I can run my CPU @ 3Ghz?! I plan on getting a ThermalTake 7+ fan (just bought one for my 1.2Ghz AMD and it keeps temps below 128F on the lowest fan setting, below 120F on the highest so I'm happy w/ that) Does anyone have any info on what tweaks are the best for the performance? I dont mind overclocking b/c I'll be getting the badass Thermaltake 7+ fan... so heat wont be an issue... Any Ideas? thanks, -Electro |

If your motherboard can handle the faster multiplyer then yes you can up it to 3Ghz. If the option is in the BIOS that is. I havent seen the fan you metioned though.. do you have a link to it? Might have to buy one myself

ThermalTake Volcano 7+
Here's the fan... but it can be kinda loud on the highest setting... as for my bios, there are plenty of tweaks... Check out this review: (I think the revision I got was later, so the capacitors are further away from the cpu to allow custom fans and heat sinks) ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Check out the bios section... I have the multiplyer set to 12.0x ... It can be set anywhere from 8.0x-16.0x I believe... What combination gives higher clock speeds? I guess what I need is an explanation on how multiplyers work against External clock speeds w/ using this bios... Any ideas? -Electro |

Very nice fan!!! Thanks for the link
And I was reading that review on amdmb.com.. I remember an ABIT motherboard I had a while back.. where you coulndt put a very big heatsink on because of everything being too crowded.. and I ended up breaking the motherboard trying to get an orb fanw/heatsink on there.silly me... but does the version you have ; have sufficient room to place that thermal fan on there?

Yes it looks like it should be fine... I didnt want to take off the fan and heat sink that came w/ the CPU ... I put all that on before I mounted the MB in the case of course... (b/c the powersupply makes it hard to get to the clip) so when I end up ordering another one of those fans and heat sinks, I'll put it on w/ some artic silver...
As for the bios setup, got any ideas on what it would take to safely get my PC to run 2.5Ghz or higher? Using that Volcano 7+ should be good enough for over clocking i think -Electro |
