Well...

How would I overclock my CPU and video card?

how much of a difference in FPS would it make in UT2003 for instance...

would is significantly decrease the component's lifespan?

etc

Well first you need to make sure u have sufficient cooling. Second overclocking depends on your motherboard and if it allows setting changes to bump the multiplier or fsb. You may gain a few fps, most gain is in processor speed. Yes it can decrease component life but by the time it would u will more then likely have a new system by then anyway.

Ya, I can change the FSB in the BIOS, but how would I change the multiplier?

Well you would have to unlock the multiplier on the processor unless it is already done and the motherboard would have to support raising the multiplier. If neither of the above just overclock with the fsb, this will usually yeild better performance anyway due to it overclocking all parts of the system, memory, video and cpu. Just raise the fsb 1 or 2 mhz then boot it and run some tests on it, primie95 is a good benchamrk to tell ya if the system is going to be stable. just repeat the process until u have a hard time booting then back the fsb back down to the highest level that it ran stable at.

Right now I have a Athlon XP 1800+ default speed is 1535Mhz and I have it overclocked to 1735Mhz pretty much all with the fsb which is set at 150Mhz. Every system is different.

I had a pcchips mobo once upon a time.... not too long ago when i got to overclocking it wasnt possible in bios. If you want to overclock you have to do it software wise you could start with cpu cool ..neat little program . Next thing you can do is post your model of your pcchips mobo.

You can find more information here
but read and read some more then some more after that... Bios flashing is risky business.

Overclocking your video card is almost too simple (being Nvidia), and can really gain you some FPS

With a registry add on called coolbits, you can increase your speed by simply moving a slider

http://www.overclockers.com.au/techstuff/a_coolbits/ has the key and a very good guide on how to overclock your Nvidia card/what to look for if it overheats, etc

I have some pretty extreme cooling on mine, but I was able to gain a few hundred points on 3dmark 2001SE, and it seems like I've gained 10-15 FPS with my Geforce 2 Pro

One thing that helped me, was to go to the overclockers.com forum and search for my card. I then wrote down every speed for that card (both on the memory and processor). After that I made a range (IE between 230mhz and 245mhz). I started at the bottom, and slowly increased the speeds until it either hung after 5min of extreme gameplay, or started to snow. Once I hit my limit, I backed off 3 mhz, and its been running smooth ever since (but your setup will be different, so don't follow exactly what I said)

as for software overclocking your cpu then bi9ostar has an excellent program called warpspeeder it should work with that via chipset. If you have problems locating it then let me know.

Try warpspeeder it should work, the bios flash should work better if you are willing to do your overclock. The bios should open alot more options for you...

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother overclocking that thing, there is a point where even a few hundred mhz doesn't matter, I think thats it, for the added strain, you would never notice

Your video card could be overclocked easily though
