Wink Overclocking first timer

Well my spec is:

Intel 2.4GHz CPU
Asus P4G8X "Granite Bay"
Hercules Radeon 9700
TwinMOS PC3700 DDR-DIMM 512MB CL2.5 (I have one stick of it)
Western Digital 80GB 8 MB Cache
Old samsung 17.5 GB (Which has windows installed on)

I am just wondering how i would go about overclocking this setup becuase i have no previous knowledge on how to overclock anything. I am currently only getting 3940 points on 3D Mark 03 and it has been suggested to me to raise that mark by overclocking my RAM becuase my spec is supposed to be getting quite a bit over 4000 point. Could any of you tell me how i would go about overclocking my RAM, i have heard also that in order to do this i have to overclock the FSB of my motherboard.

i dont know about p4's , but you have the right board for it, asus are very good boards for overclocking with.

first thing i would suggest is have a good look at your motherboard manual, as the place to juice up your board is your bios.

if you plan on overclocking there are one or two things you should know first.

1 where the 'reset cmos' jumper is located
if after making changes in your bios your pc wont boot you will need to follow the instructions in the manual to clear the cmos chip and reset your bios back to its default settings (its a good idea to make a note of your settings before you begin as well, or this could lead to problems later).

i dont know if this is your exact board, but i found a link that may be helpfull

P4g8x @ www.ocworkbench.com

P4g8x on ASUS home page (to get the manual)

WARNING: overclock at your own risk as you may cause damage to your hardware and or make your system unstable.

Thanks for the reply guys, i dont know if i will go as high as 3Ghz but i have to increase the FSB of the cpu in order to increase the RAM speed because they apparently share a ratio of 1:1, which is what i primarily want to do.

I will try to be careful though
