ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 driver problem
Yar.
So, my old, beloved Sony Vaio SRX series laptop had its keyboard connector on the motherboard short (The thing was 10" and weighed 5 pounds with an 8-hour battery, so I miss it badly), and I got an IBM R51 Thinkpad as a replacement. Problem is, best uptime I've gotten with the laptop is 1 day because the ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 driver ( ati2dvag ) goes into an infinite loop, and XP BSoD's as a result. Sometimes the crash can happen before the logon screen... What's my first responce? Obviously, I update the driver. Download the newest one from IBM's website (The one from ATI's doesn't work for whatever reason). Problem persists. Second responce. I uninstal the driver completely, and reinstall. Problem persists. Third responce. I uninstall the CPU to AGP bridge and replace it with a generic PCI-to-PCI brigde. Problem persists (I then reinstalled the CPU-to-AGP bridge) I'm really at my wit's end. Any ideas?

So, I finally got it to be acceptably stable. I installed the Omega ATI drivers, seems to have fixed the problems. I suspect that Omega disabled fast writes, something which I couldn't seem to do otherwise. Wierd.
Anyway, I now have a working IBM Thinkpad R51, and am still broke. But at least I have a working laptop again...
