%&*$£#@ activation

I've been having problems with one of my machines of late, its an old motherboard (about 6 years) and the IDE controler is on its way out. because of this it keeps crashing the O/S drive and needing to be reinstalled to get it running again.

I've lost count of the number of times its crashed in the last six months, sometimes it will last two weeks, other times two days, but out of habbit I activated it every time regardless.

then another crash/reinstall put paid to the last bit of respect i had for M$, apparently my Legal copy of XPHome has been activated too many times and M$ suspects it has been distributed and is a pirate copy

Maybe this article could help you out, rip, it explains how to re-activate xp, after a new install, without the need for online activation, or calling them.

greffov will become famous soon enough
there are OSs that do not have this activation crap.

Win2K is an excellent solution for situations where windows is a necessity, but not all the (slowing down) bells and whistles are required.

For a server there is a very nice platform that can immitate the windows box in almost any way
