I.E. locks up on update

Hi all me again with my dodgy pc. I had to do a repair of windows from cd today as this damn thing wouldn't start! After the repair i can't get to the updates page from microsoft, everything else is working perfectly. Everytime i try it just locks up I.E. and i have have to shut it down in task manager. Nothing shows up on virus scans, worm scans or spyware programs. Any ideas?

umm, you could try reinstalling IE http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...s/default.mspx

its such a pain that using windows update ties you into IE

don't worry, if you haven't got a registered copy it won't work any more soon, so then you won't need the whole thing.

it seems to be going again, i think on the repair it removed most but not all of SP2. So i'm thinking it was conflicting somehow. On the other point Greff i think for now it's only some countries that are going to have to prove they got real windows for now from what i remember of the article i posted. May be a while b4 mr gates gets around to all the countries.
