Question Login Problem .. please help

I'm running Win2000 Pro. Sometimes (not always) I have two login screens. First wants to know where .. workgroup or domain .. unfortunately I logged in on the domain. After logging in I get a screen "loading your personal settings", but yet after that, the login screen comes back. It will not boot any further than that.

I did check on another computer in the home and I can gain access thru the workgroup to my computer. But I would really like to finish booting on my own computer.

Anyone have any idea (other than the several that I have tried) that could help me get that first login screen back so I can change to the workgroup.

TY for anyone that can help me.

I wish I could do that ... but since the computer will not boot completely to the desktop.. not sure I can do anything. If I could get the second login screen that gives me a choice of domain or local, then I could correct the error.

Is there anything I can do on the second computer, where I am networked to the Win2000 computer, can I change anything there to help the 2000 continue to load the personal settings and boot completely to the desktop???

DreamCaster is on a distinguished road
Greetings Koala and welcome to the board
Have you tried booting your win2k box in safe mode to try and change your login options? Just a thought.

You can get to safe mode by pressing the F8 key when you see the message “For troubleshooting and advanced startup options for Windows 2000, press F8”

Hope this helps

wait, in the login box, have you tried clicking the advanced button? It usually expands your login box with the domain thing. Otherwise go for DreamCaster's route.

I'm sorry I haven't answered earlier, but I am not getting my email notifications. Thank you guys for responding.

First I cannot get into safe mode without logging in. And the computer responds the same as regular when you try safemode.

Second when trying to boot and on the login screen .. there is no advanced buttom to click on.

Could you please try to think of something else? I appreciate your ideas very much. Thanks

you cannot get into safe mode without logging in?!? Are you sure you're talking about windows authentication dialog here? Or do you have some special (network/boot) software installed?

I know this all sounds confusing .. and I went out for a while to forget about it .. and when I got back, my friend had another friend come in and got his computer fixed. It seems he had some kind of repair disc for Win2000. This guy told him that when we use programs to remove spyware, that they will remove spyware that actually helps some programs run. And when you remove some of this spyware, it will distort programs.

Not sure what he did, but he repaired the problem and I removed all the spyware detection programs off of the computer. I guess you can't use them on Win2000. I use all of them regularly on my XP Pro with no problems at all. I'm glad I don't have Win2000.

Thank you all for your help and someday when I have another problem, I will be asking for help again.
