WinXP Pro: Can't view source of web pages

This may seem like something really minor, but for someone like me who is constantly tweaking her web pages and stealing pieces of scripts to play with, its downright awful... yes, I'm whining.

If I right click and choose "View Source, or even go up to the menu at the top of good old IE, nothing happens. The only way I can do it is to save the page to my desktop, and then right-click and open with > notepad.

The problem started when I got a new machine, and went from a pirated copy of XP Pro to a legitimate one. Also, my old copy I did not install SP2, this one has SP2 installed.

Any correlation? Suggestions to fix this? I've searched all over in my settings, but can't seem to find anyting that relates to this.

I had this problem with a 'not so legal copy' of XP Pro. I could not find a way to fix it. It also happened with notepad. It wouldnt run unless i accessed it directly through C:\Windows\notepad.exe

Argh! That is sooo not what I need to hear..lol.

I'm also having issues with my modem- at least I think it's my modem. But that's not near so anoying as no view source....

I can double click a text file and open it up, no problems, it's just this one instance that notepad doesn;t work right.

Here are a few links that may help with the notepad issue:

Link-1

Link-2

Also, you chould check to make sure the .txt file association with notepad is correct. You should find that under folder options.

Hope this helps

Thanks for those links. I don't think my temp files are the problem, as I dump them frequently as it is..lol. However, the lack of having the "edit" button up there may be something- I had it on before, but the took it off on this machine because I never used it- everytime I decided to, I realized I hadn't bothered to change its associations to my new "favorite" editor.

Going to follow up the links the rest of the way in a bit- have do some work on an English paper due tomorrow.

Thanks all around, and hey greffov, how ya doing?

Otherwise all if well though- I'm just wishing for some serious me time without school and stuff mixed in- I'm seriously wondering what exactly fun is anymore. meep!
