Win2K Startup Tweek
Ever since i upgraded to Win2K i've noticed that there is no way to modify the programs that auto-start when i boot up my pc. Lately i've been turning it off to save electriciy during the summer, to keep my sm apartment cooler and to save some $$ ... It dosen't take an extrememly long time to boot up, but when it does boot up i always get the following things starting up and they appear in the system tray...
-winamp -B's Gold Clip (CDRW quick write utility) -Quicktime and a few codexes for bsplayer Now, i generally dont need any of these things starting up automatically and i'd like to just stop them from strarting up automatically. I know u can look in the program's options and deslect auto startup but, i am wondering... when i had WIN ME there was this thing i could do.... go to start>run and type msconfig and there i could tweek stuff. Is there anything like that for WIN2K or a start up tweek utility i can get that will enable me to push these programs out of my start up when i boot?

Spybot search & destroy has an option in the settings where you can see what's starting up, and you can disable it in there.
It's under tools-->System start run. You need to run the 'advanced' version to see those tools. |

Hiya Sweetie
![]() From what I've read, Win2k didn't come with msconfig, but it was re-introduced again in XP. The good news is that it will work on Win2k ![]() Here's a link to where you can get a copy ---> click It's near the bottom of the page. I don't think it matters where you run it from, but I think I have it in my Winnt or System32 folder. Hope this helps ![]() ~Peace DC

Here's a REAL tweak...
Since you have Windows 2000, rather than turning it off, hibernate instead. What'll happen is the RAM will get written to the Hard Drive, and then the computer shuts off. When you turn it back on, the Hard Drive is read back into RAM, and you start back where you left off. It's fast. It's faster'n any other tweak I can think of.

aah but the machine still needs power to keep that data in memory so she will still be using electricity, though a VERY small amount.

I used to let it hibernate, but i noticed that my bill for electricy was so high last winter, and since then i've been shutting it down unless i'm using emule. But hibernate is a very nice little feature. You're totally right, Fryguy. I loved it till i saw i was still using a good amount of energy.
