the usb controler should be visable in device amnager, if not either you need to enable it in your BIOS or install the right drivers for it, what motherboard/chipset is the pc based on, ill point you in the right direction to a download of the latest version

Mother board is a Soyo KT400 Ultra Black. Has a via 8235 chipset.

And there was one XP service, "Windows Image Acquisition". I think ill need that one but most not related to cams.

Yeah i installed that when i started using xp 3 weeks ago. Hasnt been updated since jan 04 but what the hell. I go there all the time for my mobo drivers. Well man screw it might as well give it a shot. If this works im gonna try win 2000 pro. XP has got too much bloat.

XP is fine once you clean it up, and make it lean and mean. If you havnt tried it go to this site and set XP up the way it should be.

This is pretty much the XP bible, and has a wealth of info there.

Well Im pretty sure i did mess with bios settings to turn off useless stuff like the RAID chip. Ill take a look. Oh and hunter. When i clean out my XP services i have only 11 of the default services running. XP is pretty good with XP lite too. But im thinkin 2000 pro sp4 is better.

*update* Well i forgot to mention this, when my xp tries to look for files for the usb controller, it goes thru my drive and xp cd, or any cd i gave it, and never finds anything. Oh and my bios settings were ok, my USB settings were enabled in the first place.

Remember that to install USB hardware you must install first the software and driver and then plug the USB device.

Yeah stupid me didnt realize about that igalan. Thats another factor but doesnt matter right now. Im trying out win200pro sp4. So its probably gonna run this time. XP is too bloated even after my cleaning process. Too bad there isnt a pre-install config for XP like there was for 98Lite.

There is an XPLite. However XP and W2000 are almost the same OS with some additions (Terminal Server included, Web Server, System Restore, extended help system, revamped Start menu and task-bar...)
