do you typically defrag your computer?

Also more information about your system would help, like what operating system, type of computer, processor stuff like that!

what programs are you having troubles with?

Are you having problems with them trying to load when they shouldn't?

Here is a good page for troubleshooting it has helped me out a couple of times.

Here is another good tweak page that might helpout. Just be careful when you start messing with things in msconfig because you can turn off the wrong thing and then have to figure out which one was the wrong one to turn off. I have done that before!

HERE - you can see quite a good action equal to MSCONFIG. Sorry I can't say what could be wrong with your not appearing. Probably a virus or some kind of virus activity. Hope this helps

Sounds like you either have another program or running app conflicting with your trying to run msconfic, something is tying up your computers resources, or you have a virus.
I started having similar problems recently. The easiest way to solve them was to just do a reformat and clean install. In my case the problem was not from a virus, but from "Over-tweaking" or the overuse of different tweaking/optimizing programs. I was trying them all out, trying to see which were worth keeping/writing about, and which were junk.

Seems like all the tweaks got tangled and I ended up with a mess. Programs were not working properly, windows would not behave, and I got lots of Lockups and "program not responding".

If your installation is over a year old, and you are having lots of little irritating problems crop up, it might just be time for a clean install....and start from scratch.
