Question Frozen XP...HELP pls

My laptop froze after the mup.sys driver. That is as XP Home edition was loading. I run the installation CD and repaired it. It loads fine but After that most of my programmes...like Office 2000 and Wordperfect 11 can't be loaded. If I click the respective icon s the system tells me "the program must be instaled before I can use it". These are supposed to be instaled programs. The various files are all set under C:/ program files. I installed Office 97 pro..still nothing has improved. I still cant work with the Office...same message. Please help me I need to use the programs badly.....any angel out there??? I'll appreciate it.

Registry problem - sounds like that to me. Repair has probably messed something with your registry and some apps assume they aren't installed when proper registry entries are not found. All I can say is - try to delete the program folder from program files and then make a clean install of it. Hope this will do the job.
Good luck

I tried to uninstall ...but same message...those programs do not even show up under add/remove. So I tried the programs' uninstal file..it did not work. Do u think it's ok to just delete them from the program file folder..?

psst... should really clean out the registry trail after uninstalling. MS products are certain to leave registry entries.

and no, just deleting from program files WILL NOT uninstall the prog! Your not finding 'Microsoft Office..' in your add/remove is quite odd to me. In this case, I guess I would reinstall from CD over exsiting install and see if it doesn't add the program to your control panel's add/remove. If it does add it, I would then : reboot > uninstall (after successfully uninstalling > check prog files > delete traces > clean registry traces) > reboot > clean install MS Office

Ldy - I think the M$ repair has done this . That's why it seems he couldn't start them. It has probably installed "brand new" reg file.
