Well, if you haven't got a key, you haven't got a legal version i guess, so you can't activate it.
If it is a legal version, click start -> all programs, there should be an activate windows button there. You can activate online or phone a number, it gives you a choise. |

erm... if you were able to install XP Home, then you MUST have had a key of some sort to get it to the point where you can use it. Even the Corporate Licensed versions need a key! You may well have installed it from a pre-keyed OEM version (where the installation already has the key in the setup file). But either way, you couldn't have installed it without a key.
I find it unlikely that, if this is a non-legit hacked version, the activation wouldn't have been disabled. So I'm assuming by "no key", you mean you used a known pirate key (which has a fancy name but I can't remember what it is...) I guess there may be a fix somewhere in this big ole' Interweb thing, but I'm not going to look for it, not when I'm using a legit version myself...

no key? can't you just go into the control panel/ system and read it off the general tab?- hell in 2k you can even copy/paste the licence key right from the diog box

I spoke to a friend of mine who is a fan of pirated software awhile ago. He told me that you'll get none of this problem if u install pirated Window XP professional. By the way, since you did not mention that you will be contacting Microsoft about the problem, i assume that you are using a pirated copy of Window XP.

Thanks guys my problem was... trying to activate it online but I did it on phone and it worked. I tried several times with the key online but each time I had problems. It was not pirated though. Very legal but OEM yet it asked for a key...surprising.
Thanks anyway.

Thing w/ OEM is tht you have to go to your PC vendor vs direct OS support... Usually sends you on a merry-go-round b4 landing someone to address your issue. Kinda like how dad use to send you to mom and vice-versa..
