Win XP program sharing
Hey all;
I have Win Xp PRO and have 2 profiles, one for me and the other my girlfriend. When I install a program in my profile it should put it in hers as well but it don't. We both have full admin rights. Some programs have the option of installing for all users of this computer but the ones that don't won't show up in her profile, and I can't even see them in win explorer. I have checked google and could only find sharing files and folders by putting it into your shared documents. This will not work for programs mainly cause it will screw the registry. Please help I don't know what else to check, any fresh leads would be helpful!

All I can think of is to delete your Girlfriends Profile & make a new one..This will install everything on your Desktop on hers. When you make make her New Profile..make sure you give her rights to everything.

Thanks; I will try that but we have to backup all her documents to a safe place so I can add them to the new profile.
This is a good temporary solution but I am looking for something more permanent as I don't want to go through this procedure everytime I install a program we both want. For fun I installed the same program on both profiles because they would not show up in each other. I wonder if this will use 2x the disk space as each folder is installed on a profile, individually and independant of one another? Trail and Error --------- Someday I will get it RIGHT!!!!

It dosen't matter how many Profiles you have..all programs go to the same place...the "C" Drive. Basically the Profiles give you a different Desktop & User Rights.

Don't remove the profile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(hope I am in time) as admin you can see everyone's profile, so you can see your girlfriends too. if you right click on the start button and select explore, you get your start menu in the windows explorer. You will see all your programs she don't have are there. Copy them and put them in a place both you and your girlfriend can access. Then log in as your girlfriend and do the same, only this time moving the links from the location you both can access to her start menu. This should work!

By the way you shouldn't use everyday accounts with admin rights (securitywise). It's better to have and admin account (not named admin or administrator or anything like that....) where you "manage your PC" (install, uninstall, etc.) and everyday accounts without admin rights.
Oh and you should protect ALL your accounts with passwords. |

One place where you both can access is in Documents and settings folder there is a folder bye name All users
There u can put the links to programs you want in the folders like start menu desktop etc.. To put them on those places for all users.. Then I think on launching usually applications should create user specific registry entries.. I hope this helps
