Static IP vs Dynamic IP
My brother plays video games all the time and hosts some games so he has his laptop set to a static IP address. When I am trying to connect I have difficulty connecting if he is on. I assume that I am set to have the router allocate an available IP address. He claims he did not change anything in the router itself.
It seems that if he has one IP address, that the router should just allocate a different one for me. He says that I need to specify a static IP address that is different than the one he is using. It doesn't make any sense to me. If he didn't make any changes to the router, I shouldn't have a problem connecting while he is on. How can I resolve this problem? Is it possible to connect to Internet while using a router with a computer using Static IP address and the other a Dyanimc IP Address? |

You are right in the sense that you shouldnt have any issues if he didnt change any settings... What kind of router do you have? Also as a note you might wanna try having him set his ip and what not outside of the starting range of the router. I myself do the same thing your brother does so... Yah... I added a image of what my settings are and as a note my routers starting range is 192.168.1.100 So in this case any time a computer plugs in it starts at 192.168.1.100 and goes to 192.168.1.255
To be honest I dont know if this might be your issue but I thought I reply seeing as no one else has... You might want to run though the settings on the router just to check. Etc... Also if your brother sets his ip like that it might just save him some time to turn dmz on for his ip as well.. Then you dont even need to worry about ports etc cuz the firewall is disabled.
