Win2K: LAN Internet Connectivity Denied

Problem:
Recently added Win2K machine to Win2K LAN
Can see the network domain, but, cannot get out to internet

Troubleshoots:
Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings
On only other Win2k all boxes left unchecked - doesn't work
Automatically detect settings checked - doesn't work
All other machines on network are WinXP Pro
Win2K is a clean install with SP4 installed
i.e. there are no ZoneAlarms etc.
Server has user in Active Directory and Computer in AD

Understand there are 2 OS sides to this so any help would be appreciated
This is also posted in the OS section

Hi,

I removed your double post - hope it's OK. It's enough to post in one section of PCTT, members would see it as a New Post, so it will get the needed attention.

Does W2k machine see the other ones? If you can ping them... or the server, then maybe something with the DNS server is wrong i.e. the machine cannot resolve the names of the sites.

w2k/xp >computer connect required

my experience with xp and 98e is that you need to run the wizard from xp disk on all machines.

i have cd so this is what i did:

xp cd in drive, autoplay

at menu,

perform additional tasks

set up home or small office network

follow instructions

xp will instruct you to repeat procedure in each machine and reboot where necessary

end

if you have no cd i am not so sure of the procedure, but i think you can do it from control panel and, if necessary, shove it onto floppy or flash drive.

im afraid i dont know a lot about win2k but i know a bit about xp and the 2 are fairly similar i believe, anyway have you checked ur lan connection on the win2k box to see if windows firewall is on - this is usually a problem wen sharing internet connections.

have you checked to see what you ipconfig is on the problem machine compared to those that can connect?

Start>Run/cmd (or command in earlyer versions of windows)
then type 'ipconfig/all' at the command prompt and press enter.
this will tell you if everything is beings assigned correctly by your DCHP Server that should be running on your server. an example of the output is attached
also, to clarify a little - when you say Win2k Lan i presume a Win2k box is acting as your server?
