Wireless Router Question

I have a Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router and a good laptop and i have got it all setup so i can connect the laptop wireless to the internet. But my question is when i look at the strength is says excellent 11mbps and the router says it can do 54 Mbps is there a reason for this? If so can i increse the speed to the laptop?

Thanks,

Berks

Look at the laptop Wireless card - if it's 802.11b then 11Mbps is all you can do. If it's 802.11g then something is wrong. Try to play with the adapter settings.
