Bypassing admin password ?????
I bought a used laptop that was being used solely on a company network, so no matter how I boot it...it still asks for an ID and password to access the network which neither my friend nor I knows. Its runs on WIN 2000 pro. Is there a way I can get around it to boot it and run the OS or upgrade it????

This sounds quite simple, but just enter nothing in the password box and press enter. This might work, but if that fails, sometimes there is a drop down box on where to connect. If there is a option to logon to 'This Machine', use that and press enter with no password. Also, you might want to try logging in via safe mode and disable it that way. Im not sure about the last way but try the first two.
If all else fails, then do want greffov suggested and reformat it.

I recall, that there is something like a W2K rescue boot or something that can rewrite the admin password. I don't know exactly. But if you really want to preserve the existing installation, you might want to scout for that.

There is a program that once written to a boot CD or floppy will allow to directly modify any password of any account. It works with Windows NT, 2000 and XP (I have not tried with 2003, but I guess it will work too) with FAT, FAT32 and NTFS (IDE disks, since it does not load driver if you have a RAID or SCSI it may not work). I always carry a floppy with this program to be able to access a computer otherwise locked (sometimes a user forgets the password of his/her XP box or whatever).

oh well, have a look for CIA commander i think v1 will only do XP. v2 should do all windows. however if it's only the OS keeping you out, format and re install. get drivers etc from laptop home page. best of luck |
